D.I.Y All Purpose Healing Salve
For ages, herbs have been used for their medicinal qualities. Now, you can learn how to use them, too.
This D.I.Y. all-purpose healing salve recipe can be used for many things and is a must for your home first aid kit.
It is intended for cuts, bruises, and very minor and common skin conditions. This salve has been a staple in my home first aid kit since 2014.

How To Make Your Own Healing Salve:
Ingredients:
1/4 cup calendula-infused olive oil
2 tsp shea butter
3 tsp beeswax pastilles (I use this form of wax because it melts faster)
6 drops lavender essential oil (optional)
Directions:
In a double boiler, slowly heat the calendula-infused olive oil, shea butter, and beeswax over low heat until just melted.
Remove from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly
add essential oil if you wish to use any.
Pour the mixture into a glass jar or tin and let it cool before using it.
How To Use:
Apply to scrapes or cuts to speed up healing. Just apply a small amount directly to the cut or minor wound. Use it just like you would an OTC antibiotic ointment.
Apply it directly to your lips when they are cracked and dry.
Rub a very small amount into your cuticles a few times a day to avoid hangnails.
Use it as often as needed when your skin is dry or itches.
NOTES:
Calendula oil can be used alone, but I like adding lavender for a little extra oomph.
Never use aluminum containers when making herbal oils or salves; use glass, stainless steel, or ceramic to avoid contamination.
Never use high heat. This can cause your herbs to burn and lose their nutritional value.
A Double boiler can be any receptacle placed inside another receptacle that contains about 1 to 2 inches of water.
